The fourth graders in Mrs. Hoyme's class studied the work of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The class watched a movie about his life from boyhood to death, read articles about the work he did to bring equality to all Americans, and studied a time line of important dates in his life. The students learned that Dr. King devoted much of his life to the civil rights movement, in which African Americans and other minorities struggled for equality. They discovered that Dr. King earned several awards for this service. The students wrote summary paragraphs highlighting important facts about the leader's life and works.
