The bare bear rode a bicycle around the circus ring.
We find the study of words fascinating. It is fun for us to learn how to use words correctly in our writing. We also enjoy learning the correct terms for the different kinds of words we meet and use. One of our spelling lists was made up of ten pairs of homophones. This "tricky" words spurred an interest in looking for more examples.
Homophones are words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings. Our class brainstormed a list of homophones we commonly find in our reading and use in our speaking. We carefully examined both the spellings and the meanings of these words. Then, each student in our homeroom selected a pair of homophones and wrote one or two sentences using both words. We enjoyed illustrating our sentences for a class book.
Here are just a few of the pages from our homophone book. If you would like to see the entire publication by the Canby Elementary School Press, please visit our classroom.
