Frindle is a book filled with excitement and humor. It is about a boy named Nick Allen. He thought it would be fun to use the word "frindle" instead of the word "pen."  He gets into trouble at school with a teacher.  Any student who uses the word gets detention. Hundreds of students found themselves in detention.

Hatchet
By: Gary Paulsen

I've read the book Hatchet.  It's an adventure story about Brian, a thirteen-year-old boy, who is going to visit his dad in Canada. He takes a single-engine plane. While in flight, the pilot has a heart attack and lands the plane into a lake in the northern woods. The pilot dies, the plane sinks and Brian is left alone for two and one-half months. The only thing he has is his hatchet and his windbreaker. Read the book to see if he gets home.

This book is worth 7 AR points and is at a 5.7 reading level.

The Landry News
By: Andrew Clements

This book is funny and exciting. It’s about a newspaper called “The Landry News”. The character who wrote “The Landry News” became popular at her school.  One of her friends published the paper on a computer.  Because the paper became a popular activity among the students, there were many new reporters. It soon became the school newspaper. The students were unable to publish "The Landry News" for a reason that you will have to find when reading it yourself.

This book is worth 4 AR points and is at a 6.0 reading level.
