Chapter 17
Pippi Visits the Supply Room

Once upon a time Mrs. Hoyme's class was expecting a visitor. Mrs. Hoyme said it was going to be Pippi Longstocking but the class didn't believe her.
At 9:30 there was a knock on the door. The whole class was curious. They all turned and looked at the door. The doorknob turned. The class wondered how it turned. One of the kids asked, "Mrs. Hoyme, how does the doorknob turn by itself?"
Mrs. Hoyme said, "It does not turn by itself. There's someone at the door."
Mrs. Hoyme went to answer the door. It was Pippi Longstocking and Mr. Nilsson, her monkey. The class was so surprised. They did not think it was going to be Pippi Longstocking.
A few seconds later Mrs. Hoyme announced, "Line up it's time for lunch."
After she got the kids to lunch, Mrs. Hoyme invited Pippi into the classroom. Mrs. Hoyme asked, "Pippi would you go down and copy this for me?"
Pippi went down and made a copy while Mrs. Hoyme went to get her class. While Pippi was in the supply room, she was into the permanent markers and she was in the glue, too, and Mr. Nilsson was eating yellow paper like it was a banana. Mrs. Hoyme went down to the copy room to see what was taking so long. When she got there she did not know what to say. She said, "Pippi what in the world are you doing?"
    "Oh, nothing."
"What are you doing?" said Pippi.
"What am I doing here? I am here to see what was taking so long."
"That's the only reason?" said Pippi.
"Well ya. Do you have a better reason?"
    "No."
"Pippi, you're in big trouble," said Mrs. Hoyme. Pippi was scared because she had never heard of a principal.
Pippi said, "Who is the principal here?"
"The principal here is Mrs. Arndt." said Mrs. Hoyme.
"Do I have to go to the office?" asked Pippi.
Mrs. Hoyme said, "Certainly all the other children would why shouldn't you?"
As the day went by Pippi was back in Mrs. Hoyme's classroom. Pippi was in the room all by herself. Pippi thought it would be a blast. Pippi got bored. So she decided to write on the big white piece of paper and so she did.
And in a little bit Mrs. Hoyme came in the door and said, "Pippi what are you doing?"
    "Drawing a picture."
"Why are you doing that?" Mrs. Hoyme never answered.
Pippi said, "Why aren't you answering me?"
"Because it was a dumb question."
"Pippi was still bored so she wrote on the big piece of white paper. Mrs. Hoyme asied, "What are you drawing?"
    "A monkey."
Pippi just kept on drawing and drawing. After a little bit Pippi got done with her drawing of the monkey. It was a very big drawing. When Pippi was all done she asked Mrs. Hoyme if she could come to SCHOOL! Mrs. Hoyme was shocked. Really shocked! And Pippi looked and said, "So, can I come be in your classroom?"
Mrs. Hoyme said, "Sure if you really want, and if that's what you want."
"Yes, that's what I really want," Pippi said.
"I will see if you can." And, Mrs. Hoyme did.
Pippi was now in school. She was so proud of herself that she had asked. Pippi could now add, subtract, multiply and do division. Mrs. Hoyme was so impressed. Pippi worked as hard as she could and she got almost all A+. Mrs. Hoyme was so impressed and so happy.
