Chapter 8

Pippi Visiti the Elementary School

Once upon a time Pippi Longstocking, a little girl with big bright red braids, was walking in town and saw a necklace in the window of a store. She thought it would be a good gift for her father so she went up to the person running the jewelry store.

Pippi asked how much it cost. The man said it was $20.99. Pippi whipped out her purse and took out some gold coins. Unfortunately, she didn’t know how to count, so she got the idea of going to school. She then said to the store owner, “I’ll be back in a jiffy.”

She walked toward the school. When she got to the school, she opened the huge front doors and walked to a classroom door that said, ’Do Not Disturb…….Testing!’ It was Mrs. Hoyme’s room. She didn’t know how to read so she walked right in and said, “Hello ya’ll. What ya’ll doin'?”
        Everybody was silent.

Mrs. Hoyme said, “Hello child. Would you like to sit down in a desk?”

       "Well sure, I’da love to.”

Pippi sat down in a desk while the teacher started doing math. "What is 7+6, Pippi?” asked Mrs. Hoyme,

       “Uh…..sixty-three?”

       “No,” said Mrs. Hoyme quickly.

“Next everybody is going to sing the A-B-C’s for their grade. Do you want to start first?” asked Mrs. Hoyme.

       “Ok,” said Pippi. “A-B-F-G-E-C-T.”

“Stop,” said Mrs. Hoyme. “Get out of this class! All you are doing is disturbing the class so get out!”

       “Ok! Ok! I’m going.”

Pippi went next door and there was another sign that said, ‘Welcome to Mrs. Hacker’s class!’

Pippi opened the door and everybody turned to see who it was. Even Mrs. Hacker.

“What is your name?” asked Mrs. Hacker.

“Oh, my name. My name is Pippi Longstocking.”

“Do you want to sit down Pippi?” Pippi sat down.

“What are we doing to do next?” asked Pippi.

“We’re going to do spelling next,” said Mrs. Hacker. “Pippi, how do you spell what?”
        “S-P-T-E-R.”

“No!” Mrs. Hacker said. “Pippi, what is 5+5?”

“Why are you asking me? You should know. You’re a teacher! I guess you can’t be a teacher,” said Pippi.

        “Get out,” said Mrs. Hacker.

       “Why?” said Pippi.

“Just because.“ Pippi left the room. She walked and walked in the hallways looking for something to do. All of a sudden, she saw this gigantic room filled with very big things in it. It was the copy room. She just couldn’t keep her hands off the buttons. She had to push one. There was an opening on something and papers started shooting out of it.

“Oops!” said Pippi. “How do you shut this thing off?”

All of a sudden, a lady named Mrs. Arndt walked in and said, “Pippi, what are you doing?”

       “Nothing,” said Pippi.

“You call this nothing? You are expelled,” said Mrs. Arndt. “Get out of my school!”

Pippi walked out of the school and back to the jewelry store but she still didn’t know how to count.
