Hello,
Welcome
to 3rd grade.
My
name is Mary Slaba. I have been teaching
for 25 years. It surprises me sometimes when I add up
the total number of years!
My teaching career started in 1984, in Colome, SD, where I was a Chapter 1
teacher. That
summer, I was married to my husband, Bob. We moved to Murdo, SD where we taught.
I taught Kindergarten for 3 years and 1st grade for 2. Next, Bob and
I moved to Vermillion, SD where I taught kindergarten for 5 years. At that
time, I received my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. We then moved
back to Murdo for 2 years and I taught 2nd grade. When we first moved
to Canby, I did some long-term subbing. I taught Kindergarten part-time in
Minneota for 1 year and then started teaching in Canby. I have taught
Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade in the Canby
District. Lots of people will ask me what my favorite grade is and I honestly
cannot say that I like one over the other. The student’s are what makes
teaching the wonderful job that it is. There’s not a day when a student doesn’t
brighten my day in some way.
My family has lived in Canby for 13 years. My husband, Dr. Robert Slaba is the High School Principal in Canby. We have 4 children. Courtney is a Senior Caitlin - a Junior, Michael -8th grade and Matthew is in 6th. We have three other family members, Dakota our Black Lab, Bella our Golden Lab, and Fat Louie our cat.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family. Much of our time is spent supporting "our Lancers!" I also enjoy spending time at our lake cabin, traveling, reading and shopping.
I hope that you will enjoy browsing through the website and that you find it beneficial to keep you updated with things that happen in our classroom.
