Important School Meal Information

September 16, 2020

Dear Canby Public School Parents,

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently informed the Canby Public School district that it will qualify for extended free summer meal program.  This program is scheduled to offer breakfast and lunch free of charge to all students now through December 31, 2020, or until the funds run out.  It is important to note the free meals will only be provided until these additional federal funds run out.

What does this mean for my family?  The summer waiver will provide free meals for ALL Canby Public School students in grades Pre-Kindergarten – grade 12.  All students will immediately begin to receive free meals at the school.  This includes students who are distance learning through Canby Public School using “Educere”.  The waiver does cover the cost for both breakfast and lunch, Monday – Friday when school is in session.  Please note meals will not be delivered, but can be picked up at Canby High School for enrolled students that are distance learning virtually.  In order to schedule meal pick up please contact Dana Mamer at 507-223-2002 or by email at Dana.Mamer@canbylancers.org

This program is in place December 31 or until the funds are exhausted.  Since the district does not know how long this program will run, the district will not be issuing refunds at this time.  By having funds in your account your child will continue to have a positive balance when the program ends.

It is also extremely important families continue to fill out the free and reduced lunch applications.  The application needs to be completed each year because the benefits do not carry over to the new school year.  If your family qualifies, you will receive school meals at no charge when this program ends.   Filling out this form is also extremely beneficial to our school district.  The more students that qualify, the more compensatory revenues our district will receive.  We can use this money to help keep our class sizes small and offer opportunities that directly benefit our students.

Please contact us with any questions you may have in regards to this program.
