School Closure and Distance Learning Update

To Canby Public Schools’ Families and Staff,
Yesterday, Governor Tim Walz issued Executive Order 20-19 stating all public and charter schools will initiate distance learning beginning Monday, March 30, 2020. The distance learning will remain in effect with schools closed through May 4 with school starting May 5.
Canby Public Schools is prepared to begin our distance learning on Monday, March 30. We will be sending out distance learning information today and tomorrow. Please be looking for emails from your child’s teachers and the school district. On the district’s website you is aCOVID-19 page. Tomorrow, the elementary school will be having a curbside book pick up between the hours of 7:30 am – 9:30 am, 11:00 am – 1:30 pm. We hope you are able to pick up the materials during these scheduled times, but we understand this may not work for everyone. If these times do not work, please contact your child’s teacher to schedule a time to pick up the materials.
If your high school student requires a paper copy of the materials, the school will reach out to you and schedule a time to pick up these materials. Grades 7-12 will receive their assignments, lessons etc. via the internet. If you do not have internet access, and need a paper copy, be sure to contact the high school office at 507-223-2002.
As you know, technology will be an important piece for distance learning. If you do not have reliable internet, or a device, please contact your child’s school or district office and we will work with you to resolve the situation to the best of our ability.
Meal service for all students and childcare for qualifying families will continue through this closure. Please continue to communicate with the elementary school if you need care you work for one of the qualifying employers. The grab and go meal service will continue each day Monday-Friday, except April 10 or April 13. These are scheduled days off from school and the meal service will not be available on these two days.
The work the staff at Canby Public Schools has done to prepare for this new learning model is be needed for distance learning. The staff will be communicating with you or your child on a regular basis. If you have concerns, something is not working, or you have a question please be sure to communicate this with the teacher of the class. We will work to resolve the issue and answer your questions. We are in this together, and it will take teamwork between home and the school to make the best of distance learning.
