I hope this message finds you and your family doing well this summer. As the start of the school year begins to creap up on us, I want to take a moment of your time to provide you with a brief update on what is taking place to prepare for the school year. As you know we are living in a time of uncertainty and it is important we prepare for whatever is thrown our direction this school year.
The Canby Public School District is scheduled to begin the 2020-2021 school year on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Staff members at C.P.S. are busy preparing for students to return. We are excited to be welcoming staff and students back into our buildings this fall! This has to be the longest stretch of time any district has gone without students in its classrooms, hallways or on the buses.
The Canby Public School District is working to develop a Return to School Plan for the 2021 school year. This plan includes three different scenarios in which school will operate depending on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic in our area or state. Scenario one is a “traditional” or in person learning plan, scenario two is a Hybrid Plan which will require the district to have students and staff follow the 6 foot social distancing guidelines, and scenario three is a Distance Learning Plan. Once this plan is finalized it will be posted to the district website.
On July 27, Governor Tim Walz is scheduled to inform Minnesota School Districts under which one of the three scenarios school will return. At this time we do not know what the Governor will announce, but it is the goal of Canby Public Schools to return to school in a traditional format. Our staff will be ready to welcome students back!
Please enjoy the rest of your summer and we will see you on September 8! If you have any questions or concerns about the return to school please contact me.

The maintenance crew is training today to learn how to properly clean our facilities for COVID. We are thankful for our maintenance team’s dedication to keeping everyone safe in school.

An important message from Nick Kockelman related to summer baseball. Due to the ongoing restrictions related to COVID19 (limiting number of participants, social distancing, and no contact with used equipment); youth baseball for the summer will be cancelled. All fees for this year will be returned (checks will be torn up and cash will be returned). We are sorry for the inconvenience and we look forward to having baseball back again next summer.

Diploma station is ready. Parking space signs ready! Thank you Blue and Gold for the signs!

Congratulations to Vickie Kuchta and Marylee Giese on their retirement from Canby Public Schools! Thank you for the love of learning you brought to school each and every day during your career.
We wish you the best! Pictured are Dr. Robert Slaba, Vickie Kuchta and Superintendent Ryan Nielsen.

A reminder that the last packet drop-off is tomorrow from 7:30-9:30 and 11-1:30.
The final day of school for students is Friday, May 22. This will also be the final day for both the school meal and day care service.
This Friday, May 22nd at 2 PM, there will be an end of the year parade in town! The teachers and staff of the Canby Schools will drive up and down the Avenues in town to wish the students a happy summer! It would be great to see many of our families! We have missed you a lot!
Greetings Parents/Guardians:
We are in our final week of Distance Learning. I would like to thank all the students, parents, and everyone else that has helped make this difficult time a success. We will be doing a final drop-off this Friday, May 22 at the Elementary. The drop-off will follow the same times as the other drop-offs. It will run from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The procedure is as follows:
1. Drop-off will be at Door #2 as before. Please drop off all school work, IPad (w/chargers), library books, text books, community ed. basketball jerseys.
2. We will ask that everyone stops at Door # 1 after dropping off to see if there are any additional items for your students. These items could include:
*Year books if you ordered them.
*Memory books for certain grade levels.
*Miscellaneous student materials left over.
Grades/Awards
Canby Elementary is looking out for the best interest of our students. We are modifying grading procedures to benefit our students. On certain subjects you will see a pass or fail for them for quarter 4. We will also be modifying the awards for this year. We will be mailing them out in the student’s report card envelopes in early June. There will not be an attendance award this year given the circumstances that we have been faced with. Not all awards will be given out this year.
Greetings Parents/Guardians:
We are on the home stretch of distance learning. Again, I thank everyone for their hard work. The next dropoff and pickup is on Monday, May 11, 2020. The times are the same which are 7:30-9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The procedure will be the same which is enter the bus lane and drop off the last two weeks packets at door #2 (middle doors) and you will be greeted by staff members to get the work. Then you will proceed to door #1 to pickup the new work for your student.
For the final dropoff we would like all textbooks, Ipads, and any library books that are still out there. The final dropoff is as follows:
May 22: Final Dropoff of packets. 7:30-9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
There is another Optional opportunity for students. Typically we send students to Marshall in May for a Science and Nature conference. Of course this year that is not possible. Our cooperative has offered a free opportunity for all of our students. More information and how to access this free opportunity follows:
The SWWC Science and Nature Conference is one of our largest and most popular events, attracting nearly 1,500 participants each year. It provides an amazing opportunity for students to explore the wonders of science and technology that can be found in the world around them. We are sad that we can’t celebrate in-person this year, but are excited to offer our first Virtual Science and Nature Conference at NO CHARGE to schools and parents from the SWWC Region.
Schools and students can participate any time from May 5 through the end of the school year. Just share this link with your students - www.swwc.org/sn. The link will bring them to this exact page where they can explore all of the sessions and activities in each of the 16 different categories. We have added grade level suggestions for each session and students are free to explore any of the sessions!
If you do have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to myself or your teachers.
Sincerely,
Ryan Arndt

Parents/Guardians:

Meal service will be offered Friday, May 1 and Monday, May 4 for all students.

Families, when you go to get your popcorn downtown Saturday night, look for your staff members from Canby Public Schools...they will be waving to you!
This afternoon Governor Walz announced the State of Minnesota will be extending the school closure and distance learning through the end of the school year. The executive order also states that Friday, May 1 and Monday, May 4 are planning days for teachers. Students will not receive distance-learning instruction on either of these two days. Distance learning will then start again on Tuesday, May 5 and continue distance learning until May 22. The district will be sending home more information about the closure in the next few days. Thank you and be safe!

PROM: After much deliberation over the past month, sadly we have determined that we will be canceling Prom for the 2019-2020 school year.
